Although Spring has technically sprung, it’s been unusually cold these past few days. Here in Houston, our temperatures have dipped as low as the 40s, which feels more like winter time than spring. Suddenly, I find myself digging out my sweaters and pants, trying to keep warm. Luckily, I also have a few self care habits at my disposal, as well.
While the cold weather lingers, why not add a bit of warmth to your self care? Try these five ways to stay warm with self care:
Sip on a hot cup of tea.
I never miss an opportunity to brew a cup of tea, and a cold day practically begs for a cuppa. Not only will the heat warm you, but you can choose a spicy flavor that brings more warmth. I recommend a nice chai tea or a blend that includes cinnamon. Yum!
Soak in a hot bath.
This past Saturday I spent over an hour reading in my bathtub, enjoying a mug full of hot tea and the rich scents of a bath bomb. After my soak, I felt warm, relaxed, and restored — despite the fact that I’d spent the morning doing my taxes (which, since I’m a freelance writer, are very complicated). If you have a bathtub, put it to use during this cold weather.
Curl up with a good book.
Pull out your coziest blanket, slip on comfy pajamas, and read an uplifting book. If you enjoy fiction, choose a book that gives you a great escape. Alternatively, pick up a self help title, such as a book about mindfulness or creating everyday happiness.
Spice up a healthy meal.
Nourishing your body with delicious, healthy eats is a great way to take care of yourself. You can take it one step forward by adding warming spices to your meal. Cook with cinnamon, ginger, cardamon, or peppers to add some heat to your food.
Cuddle with a loved one or your pet.
Nothing beats the cold like cuddling because it warms both your body and your soul. Invite a treasured loved one to join you under a cozy blanket, or curl up with your pet. Soon, you’ll both be warm and relaxed.
Have a warm, happy week!
