Mindful Monday ~ Five Quotes to Bring You Back to the Present

Living in the present moment is much more difficult than it sounds. We are often taught from a young age to focus on building a bright future for ourselves through planning, working hard, and delaying the life we want. On the other hand, the pull of the past is strong, dragging us deep into a well of regrets, second guesses, and nostalgic memories. It’s easy to get lost in the past and future, causing us to miss our chance to truly live.

The present moment is the only moment when living can truly occur. No matter how much you think about the past, you can’t change it. No matter how much planning you do for the future, life can throw you a curveball you never saw coming. The present moment is your chance to live.

For this Mindful Monday, I’ve collected five quotes to help bring you back to the present:

Monday:

“The present moment is the only moment available to us, and it is the door to all other moments.” – Thich Nhat Hanh

Remind yourself that the only time you can truly live is in the present moment. The past is closed, and the future may never arrive. Live wisely, as all future moments will grow from here.

Tuesday:

“If you are depressed, you are living in the past. If you are anxious, you are living in the future. If you are at peace, you are living in the present.” Lao Tzu

When you let go of regrets and worries, you can truly be free. Much of what plagues your mind every day is unnecessary because you cannot act on it. You cannot change the past, and no matter how hard you try, you cannot control the future. Life is unpredictable and everything is temporary. However, living well in this moment and making choices that honor who you are can help you live a peaceful, fulfilled life.

Wednesday:

“Hold to the now, the here, through which all future plunges to the past.” – James Joyce.

Life passes by so quickly. How many moments are you wasting on thoughts of the future? What have you postponed until some later date? As each hour passes, more of your life falls into the past. Each day that you don’t live the life that makes you happy is lost to time. Stop pushing off living to the future. Today is yesterday’s future, so make good in the present.

Thursday:

“Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.” – Buddha

Ground yourself in this present moment by engaging your five senses. Let your mind be free of regrets and worries. Be thankful that you have been given the gift of this moment and be satisfied in how you lived it.

Friday:

“Be present in all things and thankful in all things.” – Maya Angelou

Life is built through experiences, and you have to be present to truly experience what’s happening to you. If your mind is somewhere else, then you are missing out on life. Let yourself be present in both the good and bad things in your life. These moments give you life, lessons, and growth. They show you what’s important and create a more interesting life story for you. Be thankful that you have been given this chance to really live.
